World Trip 1 - The Beginnings

And so begins another adventure.   We now embark on our first “World Trip”, which takes us, quite literally, around the world in the span of about 7 weeks.   Flying from Arizona to Maine, an old favorite, to a U2 concert in New York, the trip flies us then to Russia, Croatia, China, Japan, and Bali, ending back in Arizona.  The trip began as an idea:  Let’s get outside of our comfort zones, quench our thirst for big travel, while at the same time throwing the checkmark upon numerous bucket list locations.   Although the term “world trip” might seem too grand for a trip that is a little less than 2 months, I coin it as our “first” because maybe someday we will do the phrase further justice with a much longer commitment.
With our assistants in place, language cheat-guides ready, and the feeling of excitement in the air, the gravity of our trip doesn’t really hit us until we are on the way to the airport for Maine.   With only flights booked, and no lodging or major research done besides which Cities we want to visit, we know that we will have to quickly fall into our old routine from our Europe trip (jasonandcandaceeurope.blogspot.org) to maximize our adventure.   We are always confident and know that all will work out.  Simply put, our lack of planning is not a sign of laziness, but rather a recognition that spontaneity is often a powerful ally, allowing for some of the best things to happen.   Ponder for a moment that if everything was already planned out prior to a trip beginning, it would therefore just be planned out with only the information available at that time of the planning.   Instead, we prefer to create a simple, base plan, and then paint the canvas of that plan as it comes to life.   Typically this happens with a bit of our own research, local input along the way, and random events combining to create the powerful masterpiece of experience.

On the topic of spontaneity, only 3 days earlier I had called my friend Justin Ledford and after a few minute conversation, him and his wife Sara are now also on a plane to meet us in Maine.  Ready to go ahead and rock out some lobster rolls, packed for a 7 week adventure, excited to share the beauty of Pleasant Pond, ME with our friends, we are ready to embark on our first trip circumventing the globe!
